Is Big Brother Welcoming Its First Transgender Houseguest? (UPDATE)

Update as of June 16, 2015 at 6 p.m.: A CBS spokesperson released a statement to Refinery29: "Audrey Middleton is a Big Brother super fan who applied online, like many other hopeful Houseguests, and was open about her transition in the application process. It is customary for Big Brother Houseguests to share personal news inside the house, and Audrey plans to discuss her story with the houseguests in her own words during the premiere episode on Wednesday, June 24th." Original story below: Caitlyn Jenner may not be the only transgender woman coming to a reality television show near you: CBS' Big Brother will allegedly be welcoming its first transgender cast member, Audrey Middleton, on the June 24 premiere of the show, according to TMZ. Audrey, age 25, "plans to use the program as a showcase ... similar to what Caitlyn Jenner has been doing," explains the website. "Audrey grew up in a small Georgia town as a boy, and life was far from easy. We're told when she transitioned several years ago, her family had a hard time accepting it, but they're now fully supportive and on board." CBS indeed introduces Middleton as being from a small Georgia town, but her official bio currently includes no mention of the brunette's transgender status. It does tell us that "She is very tight with her parents," she "prefers tall, dark and handsome guys with a quick wit," and "believes that fear is an illusion," but so far, TMZ's claims remain unconfirmed. Either way, Ms. Middleton, welcome to the wonderful world of reality television. If you are a member of the transgender community and decide to come out as such, we hope you'll prove to be as inspiring as these beauties.
