Model and actress Karrueche Tran recently opened up for a candid video interview with MadameNoire. In addition to clearing up that there's much more to her than being Chris Brown's ex-girlfriend, the 27-year-old was refreshingly honest about her personal life, the things she struggles with most — and one particular life experience that truly shaped her.
"I don’t think I’ve ever told anybody this, but my father is gay," Tran revealed in the interview. "I think I never told anybody just because I don’t realize that that’s not necessarily normal. I live my life as me, so it’s just like, ‘Oh, that’s my dad.’ But when I tell people sometimes, they’re like, 'Really? That’s kind of interesting.'"
"I knew from like middle school, even elementary school. I knew something was different and I don’t know how I even knew what gay was, being so young. I think when you’re younger, you catch on to things and you kind of get the hang of it. I’ve just kind of always known, and then as I grew older, we had certain talks with my mom, and it was just what it was.”
And, while Tran definitely did not draw a direct comparison between her experience and the one the Jenner family is going through with Caitlyn's debut, she did say that — in her own way — she's right there with them. "It kind of touched me a bit," she said of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians special on the topic. "I understood their pain and where they were coming from. Not a lot of people go through those things."
After opening up about something so personal, Tran finished the interview with a smile and a hopeful message for anyone out there listening. "Love conquers all," she said. "It doesn't matter what race, what age, how you look or anything... Love is love." We can certainly agree with that.
