Since Humans of New York sprang into existence, we've witnessed hundreds of NYC denizens sharing their innermost thoughts, feelings, memories and fears with the world. But, a recent photo featuring a little boy plucked at our heartstrings in a particularly poignant way.
"I'm homosexual and I'm afraid about what my future will be and that people won't like me," read the adjoining caption. The subject of the image looks achingly distressed (we definitely wish we could send him a hug straight through the frame). Thankfully, his honesty was quickly met with love, kindness, and a promise that it gets better from the social media community — as well as some major celebs.
Ellen DeGeneres quickly sent some support his way, commenting on the Facebook thread: "Not only will people like you, they’ll love you. I just heard of you and I love you already.”
She wasn't the only high-profile person who reached out, either. Hillary Clinton had something sweet to say, too. "Prediction from a grown-up: Your future is going to be amazing," she commented on Facebook. "You will surprise yourself with what you're capable of and the incredible things you go on to do. Find the people who love and believe in you — there will be lots of them."
We can only hope that this little guy got the message loud and clear: There is a huge community full of love and acceptance standing behind him — just like he deserves.
