Cindy Crawford may look like she has it all. However, the iconic supermodel and mom has a heartache that never completely healed: The loss of her little brother to cancer.
The former St. Jude Children's Hospital spokeswoman recently opened up on Oprah's Master Class about this family tragedy. “I think when my parents first told us that my brother was sick, we didn’t really understand what it meant ... They didn’t use the word ‘cancer,'" she said. Crawford was eight when her two-year-old brother Jeff was diagnosed with leukemia. Despite bouts of remission and progressive, experimental treatments, he passed away before turning four.
"I don't think that at age 10 that I knew that it was terminal," Crawford explained. Like many young children, she hadn't yet had any close experience with death. But, her brother seemed to grasp what was going on.
At one point, she said, "My mother said she found him sitting in his room. He was sitting at his little table, and she said, ‘What are you doing?’ And he said, ‘I’m praying.’ And she said, ‘What are you praying about?’ He said, ‘So that when I die, you’ll be OK.’" Watch the entire intervew segment in the video below.
