The crowd gathered in Hall H at Comic-Con this morning came here to hear Bill Murray talk about his new film Rock the Kasbah. But somehow the actor landed on a defense of Miley Cyrus.
Moderator Josh Horowitz asked Murray — who was wearing sunglasses and a bandana, clearly in his IDGAF phase of life — what music he likes nowadays. He named some bands like The xx, but also took the opportunity to set the record straight about Cyrus.
"I wanna say this officially," Murray told a crowd of thousands, "that Miley Cyrus is good. She's a good fucking singer."
He acknowledged that she didn't always have this effect on him. "I thought she was just a crazy girl," he said. "But she can sing." And that is the last he wants to hear about dissing Miley. Perhaps nobody has filled him in on her latest antics, which range from donning nipple pasties to posing nude with pigs? Although, come to think of it, Murray may be on board with that side of the singer, too. Every generation needs its own eccentric.
As for Murray's movie, which comes out in October, he'll be playing a clueless talent manager who takes his act (Zooey Deschanel) on tour to Afghanistan. Comedy ensues, of course, when Deschanel's character runs off with all his money, and he's left to search for her in the desert with the help of a charming, machine gun-toting hit man played by Bruce Willis.
Maybe there's still time to edit in a Miley cameo. Watch the trailer below.
