Amy Schumer has risen to fame by speaking her mind, and now she's turning her attention to a very serious issue — gun control. She spoke at a press conference in NYC this morning with her cousin, Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York, as he announced he would be introducing gun control legislation. Amy said of her support for the legislation at the press conference, "Preventing dangerous people from getting guns is very possible." Part of the proposed legislation would encourage states to utilize a background check system through economic incentives. Amy had previously referenced her future in the gun control movement when she responded to an open letter written by Sarah Clements, whose mother survived the Sandy Hook shooting, which was published on Medium. The letter asked Amy to become an anti-gun violence advocate in the wake of the shooting at a showing of Trainwreck in a theater in Lafayette, Louisiana this July. Amy tweeted, "Her name was Mayci, not Marci and I think about her and Jillian everyday. Don't worry I'm on it. You'll see."

Regarding her public support for the gun control legislation, Amy said, "These are my first public comments on the issue of gun violence, but I promise you they will not be my last." Clements asked Amy in her letter to "Demand change," and it looks like she's doing just that.
