Emma Watson Gave Up Talking After “Horrendous” Breakup

When she's not setting the world straight about gender equality, Emma Watson is, like many of us, a young woman with occasional man trouble. The Harry Potter star opened up about her "horrendous" breakup with rugby player Matt Janney in the September issue of British Vogue. The actress and U.N. global ambassador didn't turn to baked goods or a booze-fueled girls night out to heal her heart. In true Hermione form, she broke out a self-imposed vow of silence. Watson revealed that she checked into a silent retreat in Canada, which requires participants to stay silent for an entire week. "I felt really uncomfortable," she shared. "Even before my relationship ended, I went on a silent retreat, because I really wanted to figure out how to be at home with myself." It all sounds very empowering... and slightly Gwyneth Paltrow-esque. Watson, incidentally, was quick to point out that her work for the #HeForShe movement has yet to have a negative impact on her love life. It turns out plenty of men can handle being with an all-around bad-ass. "I certainly haven't found that with doing all that I do or being all that I am, that I've struggled in my love life," she said. "I just think it's very patronizing towards men. It undermines them." Fair play. Now, how much longer do we have to wait for this gal to start up her own celebrity lifestyle newsletter? We're already feeling inspired. Read On For Related Links:
