This Barbie-Inspired Shoe Collab Is Bound To Be Street Style Gold

We all heaved a sigh of relief when we heard the news that Barbie would finally get to wear flats after a long 56 years of mandatory high-heeled torture. And, now, joining us in celebrating Barbie's stiletto liberation is Sophia Webster, who has collaborated with the doll brand on an imaginative (and, yes, very pink) shoe collection for women and children.
Barbie by Sophia Webster will launch at Selfridges in London later this month; the collection will feature sneakers, sandals, and heels (Barbie couldn’t resist) adorned with pink bows, statement speech bubbles, and Webster’s signature butterflies.
"I love that this concept strikes a balance between dreams and reality," Webster said in a press release. "The idea of getting Barbie in some hi-tops and setting her loose in East London instantly appealed." And, really, after teetering on stilettos for decades, shouldn't Barbie be allowed to slip on a pair of cool-girl sneakers whenever she wishes?
What we love most about this collaboration, though, is its street style potential — especially for Fashion Month. While Fashion Week is all about getting dressed up (some call it "peacocking"), fashion-girl sneakers have been far more present than pumps outside the shows lately. This bright and quirky collection certainly begs for attention, and we can totally see bloggers pairing the kicks with boyfriend jeans.
