Shonda Rhimes may be a master of the unexpected plot twist, but one thing we know about the creative tour de force is that she'll never change her mind about getting married.
The producer recently spilled to Entertainment Weekly that she will not be walking down the aisle (or perform any other euphemism that amounts to tying the knot) in this lifetime. "We’re all so conditioned to want it, I felt like there must be something wrong with me," she said regarding her gut instinct to stay solo. "But the minute I said it out loud to my family, it was fantastic."
Inevitably, Rhimes wrote the say-no-to-the-dress storyline for Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy — and stopped feeling as though she needed to beat around the bush about not wanting to get married herself.
"Now if somebody says, ‘Are you looking for that?’ I say, ‘Nope, looking for a boyfriend, not a husband.’ And there’s a freedom to that. There’s no pressure if you’re not looking for it.”
