Tom Hardy Shuts Down Reporter Over Question About His Sexuality

Tom Hardy may be able to laugh off his revealing MySpace photos, but there are some aspects of his past that'd he prefer to keep private. Though the British actor — now married to actress Charlotte Riley — hinted about having had sexual relations with other men in a 2008 interview with Attitude, he bristled when asked about his sexuality at a Toronto Film Festival event for his new film, Legend. The film sees Hardy playing real-life East London gangsters Ronnie and Reggie Kray. Though rumors suggest both of the Kray twins had gay experiences, Reggie in particular is regarded as having been bisexual. This detail prompted a reporter from Toronto LGBT publication Daily Xtra to ask about Hardy's own sexuality. According to Defamer, Hardy was not having it. “In the film, your character Ronnie is very open about his sexuality,” reporter Graeme Coleman told Hardy. “But given interviews you’ve done in the past, your own sexuality seems a bit more ambiguous. Do you find it hard for celebrities to talk to media about their sexuality?” Hardy's response, which you can watch at around the 28:15 mark in the video below, was tense and dismissive. As in, not even his portrayal of Bane in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises made us this uncomfortable. Incidentally, it's not the first time Hardy's taken a reporter to task. Remember his killer reaction to a sexist question about Mad Max: Fury Road? Dude may be hard to interview, but he's fun to watch.
