In an emotional clip for an upcoming episode of Tyra Banks' new daytime talk show, FABLife, model and social media darling Chrissy Teigen opens up about her struggles with fertility — and the rude questions she wishes people would stop asking. Speaking with Banks about the complicated desire to start a family, Teigen admits,"I will say honestly, John and I are having trouble." She goes on to reveal the fact that, like so many women and couples in the U.S., she and husband John Legend have gone to see fertility doctors. "We would have kids five, six years ago if it'd happened," Teigen says. "But my gosh, it's been a process!"
Teigen shares that people casually prying into such a personal issue has become commonplace for her. And she empathizes with other women going through the same experience, knowing how difficult it is to face constant questioning. "So, anytime somebody asks me if I'm going to have kids, I'm like, 'One day, you're going to ask that to the wrong girl who's really struggling, and it's going to be really hurtful to them,'" she explains. "And I hate that. So, I hate it. Stop asking me!" (We wouldn't, Chrissy!)
Teigen points out, though, that one silver lining to the ubiquity of fertility problems is that it offers women facing similar struggles the opportunity to connect — or at least to not feel so alone. "Once you open up about all those things to other people, you start learning that a lot of people in your life are seeing [fertility doctors]." No doubt, a candid, sincere conversation like this between two famous female role models can remind women that they're not the only ones.
