Backlash is a word Donald Trump knows all too well. More often than not, it's concerning his comments about women. But he couldn't help but let another one rip during a campaign stop in South Carolina on Wednesday, calling Hillary Clinton "very shrill."
As The Washington Post reports, Clinton's name came up during his speech in front of a few hundred audience members in North Charleston. “Hillary, who is very shrill — do you know the word ‘shrill?’ She can be kind of sha-riiiiill,” he said, punctuating the last word with a high-pitched tone.
The remarks come after Trump's seeming resistance to call out women as of late. When Trump called Carly Fiorina a "beautiful woman" during last week's GOP debate, he was attempting to backtrack on his previous insults towards her. And if that's his way of trying to be more respectful to women, it's clear he hasn't quite nailed the approach yet. (Newsflash, Trump, there are better ways to compliment a woman than to bring up her looks.)
Of course, his latest remark is quite restrained compared to the Megyn Kelly debacle, but only time will tell if Trump finally learns to zip it when it comes to insulting women.
