Earlier this month, Caitlyn Jenner filed to legally change her name and gender. Today, a judge officially granted that request, and William Bruce Jenner will become Caitlyn Marie Jenner. According to information obtained by People, the reality star and former Olympian requested that information pertaining to the process of her gender transition, including her medical history, would remain sealed. "Although public support for my transition has been overwhelmingly supportive, I am also receiving unwelcome negative attention from private citizens, including threats of bodily harm," Jenner said at the time. Today, her lawyers went to court on the matter.

TMZ's live streaming
from the proceedings revealed that the famous transgender advocate was not present in court. Though Jenner will officially have legal status as a woman, she will retain some aspects of her former life — including her daughters continuing to call her dad. As for the decision to be classified as a woman under the eyes of the law, Jenner alluded that it was at least in part about personal safety to Matt Lauer earlier this year. Following the fatal car crash Jenner was involved in on the Pacific Coast Highway in February 2015, she said she feared potentially being sent to a men's prison. "That is the worst case scenario," she told Lauer. "I will say the men's county jail, it is an enormous problem that they would put trans women in a men's county jail." Now, it's safe to say she can check that worry off her list.
