Dame Helen Mirren is done baring all on the big screen — so say goodbye to the sizzling septuagenarian's "pleasure pillows" (her words!) once and for all.
The 70-year-old screen legend told fellow British actor Alan Cumming in a CBS interview that she is retiring from doing film nudity. In the quick interview, Cumming and Mirren reminisce about the memorable SNL skit centering on "the mystical power of her boobs," as Cumming explained. Apparently, the Oscar and Tony winner — who costars in the upcoming Trumbo with Bryan Cranston — never really understood the fuss over her assets. "There are much more legendary boobs than mine," she tells Cumming. The dame recalls her blasé reaction the first time she considered going topless for a role: "Does it really matter?" Of her nude-scene-studded career she added, "It was the era... It seemed to be nothing to get your knickers in a twist over."
Mirren has appeared in various states of undress over the decades, in films including 1979's Caligula, 1989's NC-17-rated The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, & Her Lover, and 2003's feel-good Calendar Girls. We most recently saw the Tony winner's "bazookie fun bags" (Cumming's words) in a fabulous New York Magazine photo shoot in 2010.
Alas, no more. “That's the good thing about getting older,” Mirren said. “You don't have to do that sort of thing any more." (Vanity Fair)
