Kathy Griffin is no stranger to heartbreak. In 2014, People reports her older brother Gary passed away after battling esophageal cancer for two painful years. Now she's having to relive the experience as her sister Joyce has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.
But it doesn't look like the comedian is ready to give up hope. On Monday, writer Yashar Ali tweeted two images of Griffin rocking a bold new look and a big smile on her face.

"In solidarity with her sister, who is going through chemo, @kathygriffin shaved her head," Ali wrote before linking out to the American Cancer Society.

The image on the right depicts a happy Griffin, who looks fearless as she poses with her hand on her head at her shoulders and chest exposed. The photo on the left shows her sitting next to her mother, Maggie, People reports. She hasn't posted the photos or a statement to her Instagram or Twitter pages as of now.
Maggie retweeted the images nearly 30 minutes after Ali posted them with the caption: "My daughter Kathleen Mary is a wonderful human being."

It's been a rocky year for Griffin, who drew a lot of criticism in May for posting a photo of herself holding President Donald Trump's decapitated head. The vile viral photo wound up costing the author of Kathy Griffin's Celebrity Run-Ins her job co-hosting the New Year's Eve ball drop alongside Anderson Cooper for CNN.
She apologized soon after, saying: "I'm a comic. I crossed the line...I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people, it wasn't funny."
Over the weekend, Griffin tweeted an article written by the Associated Press that clarified that she was no longer under federal investigation for the image.
TODAY. The @AP has to clarify. I am no longer under federal investigation. The case is closed, I have been completely exonerated. Finally. pic.twitter.com/1AGZ0dCMDN
