As election day approaches, big political issues that not only impact us nationally, but globally, are front and center. In the four years leading up to the 2020 election, Americans have grappled with numerous key issues, including police brutality, our broken justice system, climate change, voter fraud, how the Trump administration handled (and continues to handle) COVID-19, gerrymandering, the many layers of corruption, to name truly just a handful.
These are complex topics, and while you’ve most likely been keeping up with the news, there are still so many intricacies that may have landed outside of your scope. It's natural — the world is a lot right now— but it’s our responsibility to do our homework to the best of our ability. So as we approach voting (whether it's in person early or on Nov. 3, or by mail or drop-off ballot as soon as possible), we’re well-informed and can make choices that help shape the future of our country in the most positive way possible. If you have the time to read up on all the literature surrounding these key themes, amazing. But if you need help digesting some of the main issues that are on the table this election, these documentaries can help unpack key information in an accessible way.
Here are 13 documentaries that really wouldn't hurt to watch this election season.
