The end of 2011 has found us shuffling through our closets, searching for that denim jacket that might be a bit too shrunken, and holey jeans that we usually reserve for weekend remodeling projects. However, we're not going to blame the entire trip down memory lane on Lisbeth Salander — Lagerfeld wasn't messing around either, when he featured dreadlocks on the models for his Paris-Bombay Métiers d'Art collection.
However, when the Free People December lookbook arrived, it supplied us with a fresh wave of nostalgia for the '90s, in the form of cropped tops, overalls, distressed vegan leather jackets, and flannels that double as, um, waist accessories. While we're on board for this laid-back, cool-kid, Jordan Catalano-obsessed revival, we're also not sure we're ready to participate in a total grunge fest — after all, there was a reason why we stopped rockin' the frayed shorts (and forgive us for not lining up to partake in Karl's dreaded trend). Check out the following nine ways to go grunge this season and let us know if you're all in, if it's way over the top, or if you're planning to find a happy medium.
