Drama Be Damned: American Apparel Still Makes A Mighty Fine T-Shirt

It's so hard to talk about American Apparel without using the D-word. As in, Dov Charney, the controversial impresario who built American Apparel from a tiny T-shirt company into a lifestyle empire selling everything from books to bodysuits, to, um, baseball tees for dogs.
Charney's ethics may be in question (his good taste certainly is!), but one thing you can't deny: The man makes a great T-shirt. In case you haven't checked in with AA lately, they've come a long way from the deep V-necks of yore. Among the decidedly more sophisticated offerings are burnout stripe tees, adorably fitted polos and henleys, and raglan pullovers perfect for layering with a Peter Pan collar à la Alexa.
Click through the rest of our super-cute picks, and remember with fondness the days when American Apparel was just a humble little T-shirt company. Don't worry, these days, shiny lamé hot pants are totally optional.
