Make a house call to these five shops:
1. Wertz Brothers:
Wertz brothers Larry and Michael have assembled a huge stable of antiques, furniture, and collectibles in this permanent Flea Market mall. This airplane hanger-sized space features a variety of different dealers with their own varied booths, and we promise the prices are as good as the selection.
1607 Lincoln Boulevard (at Colorado Avenue); 310-452-1800.
2. Lawson Fenning East:
This is a must-stop shop for our favorite interior decorator friends. The Silverlake outpost has an insane array of twentieth century furniture, Los Angeles-produced traditional upholstered furniture, and all of the wood goods can all be made from recycled or fallen trees by request.
1618 Silver Lake Boulevard (at Effie Street); 323-660-1500.
3. Heath Ceramics:
Adam Silverman, the master ceramicist behind Heath, never ceases to amaze us.
Heath's solid plates, bowls, and flatware are found in Cali's premiere restaurants like Chez Panisse, The Slanted Door, and the Royalton, plus his gorgeous table toppers and tiles have won them accolades from the Cooper Hewitt Museum of Design.
7525 Beverly Boulevard (at North Sierra Bonita Avenue); 323-965-0800.
4. Cisco Sustainable Living:
We're gaga for this sustainable furniture spot. Not only is everything manufactured right here in Los Angeles, but they also have produced lines with John Derian and others design heavyweights, so don't miss this resource for the very best in green interior design.
440 North La Brea Avenue (between Rosewood Avenue and Oakwood Avenue); 323-932-1155.
5. The Open Door:
This storefront just relocated to Fairfax, and we recommend you hit up the new digs. While it can be a little hit or miss, when you do score with a pretty Tiffany glass lamp or mid-century Danish dining room table, you'll see why we keep coming back for more.
529 North Fairfax (at Melrose and Clinton); 323-653-5296.
