DKNY Celebrates 25 Years With A Runway Dance Party

There are certain consistencies during Fashion Week that we always look forward to: the first sighting of Bill Cunningham in his blue jacket, grabbing margaritas at Rosa Mexicano — and settling in at DKNY to be greeted by solid, sexy street wear presented against a backdrop of painted cabs. And, although DKNY isn't known for breaking any molds or throwing surprises onto the runway — it does present just the right barometer of what cool NYC girls are wearing these days, and it's been doing it for the past 25 years.

To mark its Silver Jubilee anniversary, DKNY revisited many of its past successes — that bold logo, the poppy anorak, the slinky dresses, those great track pants — but a hallmark it really brought was the energy. Too many shows tiptoe around the audience, presenting clothes that are too delicate for dancing and too serious for smiles and serving up clothes — pretty clothes, no doubt — with kid gloves. For contrast, DKNY closed the show with a shimmying, sauntering Rita Ora, and Karlie Kloss showed off a gown wearing sneaker wedges, a fantastic move that made us second guess our own evening footwear game. As our editor-in-chief said after the show, "A sneaker revolution is afoot." Because really — those are the real dancing shoes.
