Sarah Burton and her design team at Alexander McQueen have done it again. The Brit brand’s spring/summer ’14 collection is a triumphant combination of much-loved signature themes and interesting stylistic additions.
The label’s iconic tailoring is present throughout, most particularly in the jackets and LBDs but, the sculptural separates are teamed with pieces that have a far sportier feel to them than we’ve seen in a long while. Trousers with a softer silhouette are emblazoned with go-faster stripes and cropped tops are matched with mini kilts and skinny leggings underneath. And, while the collection is predominately monochrome in hue, vibrant bursts of red and cobalt blue (the number one accent color for the upcoming season) are noticeable for their impact.
And, we haven’t even got started on the gowns yet. The diaphanous folds of one particular chiffon dress, printed with feathers of all colors and sizes, is breathtaking. When we win our Oscar we want a dress as beautiful as any in this collection to walk the red carpet in. Day dreams aside, this is a collection that is as impactful as it is wearable, give or take a crop top or two.
