This Is What Jason Wu’s Version Of “Sexy” Looks Like

Strong start. Strong finish. It's an observation that could be easily confused with competition at the Sochi games. But, alas, we're talking about Jason Wu's fall '14 Fashion Week show. As the lights came up, opening-model Adriana Lima's first steps were sharp — not to mention, clad in a menswear-tailored suit — setting the tone for the rest to follow. And, of course, the strong finish refers to Karlie Kloss. Because, if there's anyone who can make the shutter of a camera move toward warp speed, it's her.
However, it was in between those appearances that Wu really worked his magic. While we were expecting to spot some inauguration- and red-carpet-worthy dresses in the collection, we found a slinkier, modern, dark, and, yes, maybe even mysterious Wu woman. She's one who's not afraid to play with big proportions and teeny, slinky-strapped dresses. She prefers neutral colors, muted shades, but fabrics so shimmery, they move like water. Plus, she knows how to hold attention even as she's walking away. Her undeniable choice of method was the cut-out detail along the back of her gown.
So, sure, maybe Wu decided to sandwich his show with major star power, but perhaps it only served as symbolism for a collection designed for a woman interested in making a lasting impression.
