Within minutes of previewing the kate spade new york fall '14 collection, the social-media stratosphere erupted in editor tweets and Instagrams of the brand's spot-on color combos, polished silhouettes, and perky leopard prints. Not to mention those positively cheeky, Pinterest-worthy accessories — namely its Chinese-takeout-container clutch, complete with signature gold-chain hardware.
Finding inspiration in her travels throughout Asia, creative director Deborah Lloyd took us along for the trip — sartorially speaking, that is. For Tokyo, we were treated to the city's high-speed flashes of color — electric blues, metropolis greens, and shocking pinks — contrasted with neutral grays and blacks. At the skyscraper-crowded waterfronts of Shanghai, we saw Lloyd's vision through a smoky haze of a bygone era on The Bund. Shades of deco beige, rose, jade, Orient red, and empress blue were teamed with jeweled embellishments and gilded accents for the ultimate collection of snap-happy clothes.
