Fashion has long been infiltrated by architects, notably Martin Margiela, Hussein
Chalayan, and Issey Miyake, but, and this is just a guess, Alvin Valley is the only
University of Miami educated architect to successfully make the switch from finals
to Fashion Week.
Alvin Valley, dubbed the king of the pant by Vogue and Women’s Wear Daily, is
coming back to the home of the U for a meet-and-greet and trunk show. Valley’s
eponymous label was first launched in Coral Gables, but he relocated to SoHo and
made a name for himself with celebs and the fashion set. Alvin sold his label to
Moret Group, but has now bought it back and is re-launching it under an innovative direct-to-the-consumer model, meaning shoppers get the goods first. Need an extra credit reason to hit up the trunk
show? 10% of the sales benefit Roots of Hope. You taught him well, UM.
Where: Murano at Portofino, 1000 South Pointe Drive, Apartment 2204. RSVP here.
