The Swiss Army Knife Of Curling Irons

There's nothing I love more in a beauty product than a customization option. I like to not only feel in control of the look I am creating, but also know that I have the ability to tailor it to my individual heart's desire. So, you can imagine my intense reaction to Amika's new customizable curling iron. Called the Switch Kit, it features interchangeable rods of differing sizes to help create the curls of your very specific dreams.
Now, this isn't the first time Amika has done this particular concept. A few years back, the brand introduced an interchangeable iron set that featured a handle and four different-sized barrels for the price of $175. At the time, I thought the idea was cool, but for the price I didn't think it made sense. The odds of someone using all four barrels seemed slim, meaning you were spending money on things you most likely wouldn't use.

This time around, the brand seems to have learned from that mistake. Instead of including all four barrels in one set, they're selling them separately and at a cheaper price point. The starter kit will feature the handle and a 1-inch barrel — the bestselling size, according to the brand — for $100. Each of the additional barrels — a 1-and-1/4-inch, a 1-and-1/2-inch, and a tapered 1-inch barrel — will sell for $30 each. So, you can pick and choose the barrels you want and only spend money on the ones you'll actually use.
Additionally, Amika shows you what kind of styles can be created with each barrel, from big glamour curls to multi-sized beach waves. As any good curl junkie knows, the secret to getting gorgeous, natural-looking spirals is to play around with the size and shape of each coil. With this customizable system, users are able to pick and choose the barrels they want to create their curling iron wardrobe, without having to buy a completely new iron (and spend the $$$ that goes along with that). I call that a win-win.
