Sex Ed: Get A Sneak Peek At S.F.’s Antique Vibrator Exhibit!

Sure, we love moseying around our favorite museums on the reg (it really never gets old), but sometimes our art-filled trips lack a little…shall we say…spice? Well, things are about to get a lot more intriguing, thanks to the folks over at Good Vibrations.

Get ready for some serious sex-ed flashbacks, ‘cause the storied local sex shop has curated a selection of rare, vintage vibrators that are interesting, to say the least. From gas-powered contraptions to rolling pins (eek), curator Dr. Carol Queen will trace the roots and evolution of the vibrator, which, some of you might recall, was once used by physicians to treat "hysteria" in women.

"The new exhibit contextualizes the vibrator's role in society and highlights how our attitudes around sex and female pleasure have evolved," explains Dr. Queen. "It really gives us an appreciation for how far both society and technology have come."

Starting tomorrow, folks can head over to the adult shop on Polk Street to take it all in. And, if you need to add a little more freak to your springtime agenda, be sure to take note of the Bay Area premiere of the vibrator-centric film Hysteria (starring Maggie Gyllenhaal), which will be screening at the S.F. International Film Festival and co-presented by Good Vibrations.
