Beauty & The Beast: Former Pageant Girls Raise Funds For Sandy

The results are in: This is officially the most adorable Sandy relief event yet. This week marked the reunion of approximately 60 former Miss Subways, as they joined forces to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims and made us wish these beauties were actually our besties. Hosted by Miss Subway 1959 Ellen Hart, the afternoon gathering took place at Hart's Midtown resto, Ellen's Stardust Diner (you know the one — where the servers are usually Broadway hopefuls but always amazing singers).
The winner of the Miss Subway pageant, which had an oh-too-short run from just 1941 to 1976, got the opportunity to be on posters throughout the New York subway system. The results were completely up to the subway passengers who would choose an intelligent, interesting, and, of course, beautiful winner. Apart from their good deeds and tie to history, the Miss Subways are also the subject of a new book and exhibition at the NYC Transit Museum. That means you don't need to worry because you haven't heard the last of Ellen and the girls.
Visit Animal NY for all some aw-dorable footage of the event, visit the exhibit at the New York City Transit Museum through March 25, and keep your eye on Refinery29 for ways you can help Sandy victims, as well. (Animal NY and Ellen's Stardust Diner Blog)
