For those of you who have been slaving away at your desk — or running from meeting to meeting all summer without so much as a moment to wipe your brow — the whole back-to-school season may feel a bit "Eh, so what?" But, we believe that the fall is just as much a time to revamp your style perspective as it is a time for second graders to get hyped about new Crayolas. The one area of your closet you absolutely shouldn't neglect? Your basics — those pieces you toss on day after day and can build into just about any outfit. Case in point: your indispensable oxford.
To track down the collared shirt that's most worthy of all your hard work, we turned to Rank & Style, the e-commerce surveyors who pick the best-of-the-best buys based on popularity. And, in a far-from-ironic twist, the top that tops is called the "Easy" shirt.
The classic, collared style by Band of Outsiders was named the best oxford on the market (based on overall buzz and a seal of approval from fashion editors), Rank & Style reports. The style is sleek and minimal, with a single breast pocket that embellishes the crisp silhouette. It's the kind of top that's special enough to stand out, yet subtle enough that you won't have to explain to your coworkers why all your fall outfits include a collar peeking from your sweaters, pinafore dresses, or blazers. And, come the weekend, you'll take the poplin top for a spin with boyfriend jeans or layer it under your favorite summer dress. But, much like a pair of silk PJs or cashmere socks, we suspect this shirt's greatest appeal is best understood when you actually try it on. In other words, this around-$300 piece deserves an in-person investigation.
Ahead, we rounded up all the Band of Outsider "Easy" (to wear) tops we could find — from traditional white to a rich, green, plaid print that's so autumnal it practically begs you to go crunch some leaves. That's a back-to-school vibe we can all get on board with.
