It was in the middle of a long, cold, and arduous winter when Broad City made its debut on Comedy Central a year ago. Needless to say, the episodes themselves were these weekly beacons of light in what would have otherwise been a cruel and unforgiving season. Which is why we're beyond ecstatic about Broad City's grand return for its second season, which premieres tonight. Staying in has never sounded more appealing.
The show, about two best friends named Abbi and Ilana navigating their mid-20s while living in NYC, seemed to spread rapidly through word of mouth and on social media during the show's first season. It quickly turned into a sensation — naturally among women. It was as if there hadn't been a show about two best friends, in all their scheming and trouble-making ways, flourish on television since the days of Lucy and Ethel (and even that relationship wasn't the main crux of I Love Lucy). In Broad City, you'll never hear words of jealousy or glean frenemy feelings. Quite simply, Abbi and Ilana (played by Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer) are real deal BFFs, in all their stoner and "dude"-saying ways. And, men? Sure, they're also on the show...sometimes.
If you're counting down the minutes until the second season premiere stonight, perhaps the 10 reasons ahead can tide you over until then. And, if you've never seen the series at all, then you're in luck because we hear winter is not going anywhere and the whole first season is now online.
Broad City season 2 premieres tonight on Comedy Central.
