Camelia Skikos’ Latest Lookbook Proves She’s A Cut Above The Rest

While clicking through her latest lookbook, we’re convinced no one’s a greater master of the structured silhouette than S.F. designer Camelia Skikos. The Romanian expat’s latest fall/winter collection possesses wares bearing out-of-this world shapes that we didn’t think were humanly possible to create. Think upsurged sleeves that resemble beach waves and zig-zagged tribal incisions on the torso. Yowza! And to accommodate the wintry season, Skikos added furry trimmings for those brisk S.F. chills.

With our curiosity at its peak, we probed into Skikos’ design process to learn just how these pieces came to be. What we discovered? Romanian rug patterns and folk dresses were at the heart of the collection’s inspiration. "I was inspired by Kathleen McLauglin's book The Color of Hay," says designer Camelia Skikos. "It explores the traditions of peasants in Northern Transylvania and the various ways in which people in a traditional culture relate to their environment, their past, present, body, and spirit, old and young."
