Dressing for your body type can be a tricky task of selecting silhouettes that emphasize your curves, or strategically create symmetry. For fall, COS is daring us all to embrace another kind of shape. This time, it’s more of the geometric sort.
Taking inspiration from traditional Japanese clothing, the new-to-the-U.S. brand's autumn pieces don't follow the shapes of our bodies at all. Instead, they are cut to jut out at unexpected points, like by the knee and at the elbow. The hems bell wide toward the bottom, and slits are sharp and precise. And, in case you’re thinking the folds of the pockets and collars remind you of a certain fortune teller you were a pro at creating in sixth grade, you wouldn’t be completely off-base. Origami-inspired folds and sharp edges are seen throughout the designs.
Lovers of body-con may not feel this collection — although the obi belts do create quite the hourglass frame — but we think this modern, avant-garde approach to clothing shapes is just as important to master as the by-body-type kind. Click on for a preview of the styles, and get ready to get into a totally new shape when they hit shelves this summer.
