In the beauty world, "cult products" is a widely recognized term. From NARS' Orgasm blush to Urban Decay's Naked palette, there are a few items that nearly every beauty aficionado has used in their lives. But for fashion? That concept is a little harder to grasp.
The pool is small, but there are a few items that'll get you hat tips from fellow fashion obsessives — and for good reason. They're beautifully made, will be on trend until long after you're buried in them, and help you find your brethren in a crowd. We can't be the only ones who've had random conversations with strangers about the four white stitches at the nape of their necks.
But, before we dive in, we've got a few definitions to hash out. Our criteria for a cult-fashion buy are as follows: First, they have to be instantly recognizable by advanced fashion folks, but not by basic fashion people (a Chanel 2.55 bag does not count, but an Issey Miyake bao bag does). Secondly, they have to be routinely reissued, or the designer has to make variations of the same version each season (Sacai's franken-coats do not count, but Rick Owens' leather jackets do). And finally, they have to endure — they've got to have staying power to withstand changing trends and aesthetics (Pyrex shorts do not count, but Comme des Garçons wallets do). All straight? Ahead, find the 16 cult-fashion buys that are worthy of your worship.
