These Lamps Are The Next Bright Thing In Design

In the past five years, we at Sight Unseen have watched the American design scene explode with amazing new talents, not just in New York, but in cities like Seattle, Chicago, and D.C., too. But, we never thought we’d see the day when one of the industry's most promising hailed from somewhere as far off the beaten path as St. Petersburg, FL, which happens to be the city Brenda and Robert Zurn have called home for the better part of two decades. And, it’s where they set up shop last year as DAMM Design, a lighting studio that marries sleek modernism with colors and geometries that evoke the playfulness of Memphis design.
They debuted their collection during New York design week this past May, and have works for sale with the global design retailer L’ArcoBaleno. But, just as they're getting plenty of attention outside the confines of their home base, they are also coming to embrace it, having recently started collaborating with some of the glass artisans St. Petersburg is best known for (Dale Chihuly is based there, for one). We caught up with the Zurns to find out more about how their life and work intersect.
