It's that time again — the magical moment each fall when cyclists and clotheshounds convene and ride in packs through the city on retro-fabulous bikes, sporting top-of-the-line vintage duds. The 2011 DC Tweed Ride takes place on Sunday, and as a creative lead-in to the event, photographer Katie Warren teamed up with vintage buyer/stylist Elise Peterson to create a dreamy, vintage-laden lookbook.
"I wanted to stay true to the spirit of the Tweed Ride through iconic fashion, while incorporating modern edgier touches," says Peterson, who styled the outfits using pieces from local boutiques Pretty People Vintage and It's Vintage Darling. "This 'Nuevo-Tweed' was brought to life by switching staple pieces, such as tweed skirts, with sexier leather silhouettes. There was a strong emphasis on accentuating traditional Quaintrelle ensembles with touches of fur on jackets, stoles, and collars. The addition of bolder hardware, such chunky metal rings and fabulously gaudy earrings, added finishing touches to perfectly Dandy duds."
