Aside from Lady Edith's trips to London newspaper offices and Mary and Matthew's utterly overlooked honeymoon in France, the Crawley family doesn't really get out much. (Though, to be fair, the show is called
Downton Abbey, not Aristocrats Abroad.)
But, that's all about to change with this year's Christmas Special, which sees Lord and Lady Grantham taking their brood on a Scottish summer holiday — Cousin Matthew in a kilt, please! — while the servants back home make do with a local carnival.
Filmed at Inveraray Castle on Loch Fyne in Argyll, the Highlands adventure will involve a spot of fishing and shooting, the return of that naughty Lady Rose, and lots of romantic clinches between Mary and Matthew, who, when we last saw them, were getting down to baby-making business.

The sneak peek (watch below) also hints at a potential new romance for son-in-law Tom Branson, who catches the eye of a new maid called Edna. Send in those petitions now, Team Sybil!
The Downton Abbey Christmas Special airs at 8:45 p.m. on Christmas Day on ITV. Better tell Mum to move dinner up.
