Marchesa Goes Far-East Chic With Opulent Beauty Looks

While almost all of the shows at New York Fashion Week set our hearts aflutter, none get our girlie sensibilities in quite such a frenzy as the Marchesa show. Set in the insanely gorgeous Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal this season, the glamorous energy was palpable immediately upon entering the backstage-prep area. Lit with a diffused glow, models such as Hilary Rhoda (our fave!) got the tribal treatment with graphic-glam hairstyles by Renato Campora of Frédéric Fekkai and haunting, gold-and-black eyes by Talia Shobrook, lead makeup artist at Laura Mercier.

For the luxurious locks, Campora created a glassy ponytail with Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting and Texturizing Spray Gel, and models with shorter hair were treated with faux tails to get a long, straight, luxurious pony. Campora created a slick middle part and braided the two front sections into two braids each, crisscrossing the two plaits into a U-formation and pinning. Finally, he wrapped the ends of the braids around the base of the ponytail and finished with Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hair Spray and Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Sheer Shine Mist. Says Campora: "I wanted to create slick, graphic, elegant hair to work with the silouettes of the collection. The braids add a decorative element to a sleek and slightly futuristic ponytail."

Talia Shobrook started the makeup look with the perfect canvas: a moisturized and gently illuminated complexion. The focus of the makeup look was the Indian-inspired eye accented with gold leaf, which Shobrook said was meant to highlight the opulence of the collection. Shobrook created a "modern" kohl-lined eye with Tightline Cake Eye Liner in Black Ebony and finished with a coat of Long Lash Mascara in Black. Finally, pieces of gold leaf were placed at the corners of the eye for that exotic, swoon-worthy bit of flash. Topping it all off was a light coat of Hydratint in Mocha Tint — the perfect bare nude to keep the focus on the models' fierce stares.
