Through four seasons of Game of Thrones, we've watched in horror and giddy anticipation while our favorite characters have been slaughtered, imprisoned, exiled, and humiliated. And, don't think we forgot when this happened to a certain child tyrant. As Emilia Clarke sums up the plot thus far, "Blood, death, boobs, dragons!"
If only it were that simple. With one of TV's largest ensemble casts and innumerable intersecting plotlines to follow, remembering the details can be confusing, to say the least — especially considering it’s been a whole year since we last saw our friends in Westeros. Trailers for the HBO saga have been peppered with clues about the battles that lie ahead. As Daenerys explains, "Lannister, Baratheon, Stark, Tyrell — they're all just spokes on a wheel. This one's on top, then that one's on top, and on and on it spins, crushing those on the ground. I'm not going to stop the wheel — I'm going to break the wheel."
Khaleesi has a point. In yet another trailer, Varys implies to everyone’s favorite imp that Westeros needs a queen — not a king. "The Seven Kingdoms needs a ruler loved by millions with a powerful army and the right family name," the eunuch surmises. "Good luck finding him," Tyrion scoffs. "Who said anything about him?" Varys replies cryptically.
In preparation for the premiere of season 5 on Sunday night, we’re recapping where we last left the leading ladies of the five major houses vying for the Iron Throne.
It goes without saying, but: SPOILERS AHEAD!
