Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman Is Debuting Her Own Line At JCPenney

UPDATE: We've received more images of the Pearl collection. Check out four of the creations in our slideshow!
Marchesa (designed by Chapman and partner Keren Craig) creates the kind of gowns that even the least frilly of women want to try on to feel like princesses. The secret is in its utilizations of typically frou-frou elements (ruffles, organzas, sparkles, silks) and how the label puts them together in a slightly off-kilter way that's still flattering and modern.
Starting March 1 (and online today), Georgina Chapman will design Pearl, her own capsule collection for JCPenney, which will be stocked in 500 in-store boutiques around the country. Named after the middle name of her daughter, the collection will be geared toward a slightly younger audience. Says Chapman "It’s got a slightly different attitude, a younger attitude, but it all comes from me. It retains the same sensibility and design aesthetic. I wanted it be fun." The dresses will range from formal cocktail frocks to mega-formal red carpet-worthy gowns for all those summer weddings, spring galas, and — for our younger readers — prom.
Said Chapman, "I have really enjoyed [tackling the mass market]. It's amazing what Penney's can achieve at a price point. There's corsetry involved, beautiful laces, beautiful prints." The dresses will retail between $50 for a short lace shell to $250 for a long gown. (WWD)
