It's always a beautiful to see children dress up as historical figures, but one woman's project to teach her daughter about icons of African-American history is worth celebrating during the 11 months of the year that aren't specifically dedicated to Black history.
Chauncia Boyd Rogers posted an album to her Facebook page in March featuring photos of her daughter Ava dressed as different African-American women throughout history. From Phillis Wheatley to Angela Davis to Tyra Banks, Ava got to learn about these inspiring women by embodying them for the camera. And, for those who stumbled across the project as it spread across the Internet, Rodgers included short biographies of each subject, so viewers had the chance to learn, too.
"One of the greatest lessons I wanted Ava to learn is that there are women who look like her that have accomplished great things," Rogers wrote on her photo album's Facebook page. "And, because they have paved the way, her dreams can be realities."
