If Grizzly Bear’s 2009 album, Veckatimest, honed its ability to carefully manicure and arrange its music, Shields should be shaping up to be a little bit looser and a little bit less restrained. “Yet Again” sees the band attacking its melodies with more drive than we’re used to, and even Droste’s honeyed vocals sound more agitated. As the track progresses, Daniel Rossen's jagged guitar serves as an uneasy counterbalance to Droste, edging the arrangement into darker waters. For a group that cares so deeply about the details, it’s especially satisfying to hear that perfectionism used to roughen up the edges rather than to sand them down.
