Spring is (hopefully) on its way, so we're gearing up for the promise of sunshine and warmer weather. But, not before taking a second look at our beauty game — starting with our hair. When we saw all the bobs, lobs, wobs — whatever you want to call them — on the red carpet, we were convinced that we had to get to snippin'. But, before making the dive, hairstylist Anna Webber shares the trick to getting your feet wet: Try a faux lob.
For a tousled look like this, Webber says the trick is texture and volume so that the fake chop looks convincing. She suggests prepping with a mousse, like Pantene Volume Triple Action Mousse, while hair is still damp and then rough-drying with your fingers for an imperfect, lived-in vibe. If you want even more volume, twist your hair around your fingers as you dry or throw in a few medium-sized curls with a 3/4-inch curling iron — but not before using a heat protectant, like Pantene Heat Protection Spray, to keep your strands safe during heat styling.
Now, for the fun part: Take 2- or 3-inch sections of hair and roll 'em up around your fingers, as if you were using a hot roller. Once you've gotten the roll to your preferred length, secure the ends by the nape of the neck with matte-finish bobby pins; try the tried-and-true method of crisscrossing the pins for a seriously secure hold. Spritz with a quick shot of hairspray so everything stays put. Then, round out the look by teasing the crown and pulling out face-framing pieces.
This style is great for all textures because it works with your hair. Hair lengths are another story, though. If your hair is well past your shoulders, gather your strands into smaller sections (1 or 2 inches), and then roll tightly. Go on, shorty — faking it has never looked so good.
No matter how effortless or elaborate red-carpet hairstyles are, there’s always a way to translate them into real life. (Sparkly mermaid gowns are an entirely different story.) So, with the help of Pantene, we’re highlighting the best red-carpet-to-sidewalk hairstyles in our new column, Hair Watch. Read up, and stay one curl and twist ahead of the crowd.
