Isaac Mizrahi Goes Back To His Roots — With Gingham Wedding Gowns

Designer Isaac Mizrahi has his nose in a lot of honey pots these days. The host of The Fashion Show recently announced an exclusive 18-piece collection with bridal empire Kleinfeld, the salon behind TLC reality show, Say Yes To The Dress. The line, which hit stores in mid April, features a full spectrum of silhouettes and styles ranging from Cinderella-like ball gowns to fit-to-flare dresses. The designer, who wed his longtime partner Arnold Germer last fall, put his preppy stamp on each design by adding unconventional touches such as gingham sashes, pink lace, and black embroidery, even adding an all-black ball gown into the mix. Prices hover between $2,500 and $6,000.
This isn’t Mizrahi's first time at the bridal rodeo, by any measure, though. Last year, the designer produced an exclusive collection for members-only flash-sale site Aisle New York — and let’s not forget the wedding collection he did for Target a few years ago. So, why the gravitation towards bridal?
“I think I'm good at designing wedding gowns because I have found the right balance between fantasy and reality,” Mizrahi told us, adding that the first dress he ever designed for his own label was a bridal gown. While the dresses aren't for every bride, if you're the type to favor plaid and gingham over plain colors for your day-to-day outfits, why would you consider anything different on your wedding day?
