James Franco’s $650 “Brad Renfro Forever” Switchblades Now On Sale

And in James Franco’s newest oddball project news... It seems that the multi-tasking actor and proud son of Palo Alto (whoop!), is now hawking a $650 switchblade with the words "Brad Renfro Forever" scrawled across it. This, of course, in addition to his recent dabbling in invisible art, high-fashion photography, a new wacky EP, and soap operas. The limited-edition knife is a collaboration between Franco, LATAMA Italian cutlery, and San Francisco’s own Moon Editions, and is sold exclusively on the S.F.-based e-shop (and magazine) The Thing Quarterly. So, what’s with the Brad Renfro reference? It’s all a part of Franco’s quest to keep his Deuces Wild co-star’s memory alive after Renfro’s untimely death at 25 of a heroin overdose. Franco’s big Rebel Without A Cause-themed project at the Venice Biennale (which has been pushed back a little bit) will also include an homage to Renfro. Some might also recall that Franco recently had Renfo’s name carved into his arm with a switchblade, a video of which might make its way into the Biennale. So, yeah, there’s a lot of overlap going on with all of this stuff. In any case, for those super-into switchblades—or James Franco—you can now pre-order the Franco-signed knives before June 23 and knock $100 off the selling price, although your purchase won’t be delivered until this fall.
