Hold the front door, guys, because something is rotten in the land of mozzarella sticks. Apparently, for their new "2 for $10" promotion, TGIFriday's wanted something cool, something hip, something that evoked the downtown grit of underground New York house parties with French DJs. In other words, they wanted LCD Soundsystem.
Pitchfork pointed out the pretty serious similarity between the restaurant and LCD Soundsystem's early hit, "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House". The disco groove and claps are dead-ringers for the tune, along with the fuzzy bass stabs, but the real culprit is the repeating of vocals: "Daft Punk is playing at my house, at my house," vs. "It's about to take off, about to take off." The singer even sounds like James Murphy. Maybe our sad pining for a new LCD album is making us hallucinate, so here are the two commercials, side-by-side. What do you think? (Pitchfork)
