Levi’s Latest Collab With Filson Makes Us Want To Go Fishing

Beer. Scruff. Fishing. Trucks. These symbols of masculinity are at the heart of the latest collaboration between Levi's and Filson for fall '12. While we don't necessarily condone a macho stereotype, for this third-of-its-kind fashion collab, we found ourselves on board. In keeping with their utilitarian roots, Filson by Levi's pairs wool and denim to create the perfect line for the fashion-forward fisherman, featuring a model who could convince us to spend a day (or a lifetime) in the wilderness.
In keeping with Levi's Go Forth campaign, which has used verses of classic American poetry from Charles Bukowski (Laughing Heart) and Walt Whitman (Pioneers! O Pioneers! and America) as sources of empowerment, the lookbook is inspired by environmentalist and author John Muir. His quote, "I only went out for a walk, and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in," acts as the visual narrative's central theme.
As Muir suggests, the team-up offers tons of versatility — from an Into The Wild moment to the concrete jungle in the same wardrobe. Beginning with the classic Levi's trucker jacket incorporating Filson's well-known oil-tinted cloth, the menswear line covers all the bases: Hats, jeans, a wool fishing shirt featuring a front pocket for storing your catch of the day (kidding, sorta), and a John Muir-approved set of tote bags.
