There's been evidence of this happening for a few seasons now, but for fall 2015, the capital of ultra-femme, romance, and glamour seemed to have flipped the script on us. Milan fashion has been ugly-pretty-ified, and we're not the only ones who noticed. Business of Fashion wrote about "Milan's Ugly Beauty," and The Guardian called the shoes at the season's biggest show, Prada, "outright ugly," without any tempering of judgement. Swapping high slits and liquid fabrics for oversized silhouettes and funny embellishments, Italian fashion is changing in some very polarizing ways.
For us, the pursuit of ugly-pretty has always been as fun as the pursuit of power-dressing or the pursuit of chic. We've all got our favorite outfits that can't necessarily be described as "flattering" or "sophisticated," but which we love dearly, nonetheless.
