Yes, we admit that resort collections are relevant the world over — everyone likes a good vacay. But when designers release early summer looks, with beach-y, bright colors and leisure life inspiration, the fun, printed pieces feel just so inherently Miami. Maybe because Palm Beach and The Magic City always serve as an inspiration for urban paradise — be it traditional Lilly Pulitzer or cutting-edge Chris Benz — resort '13 is our season.
So now that designers are considering resortwear as fun alternatives for those who want warm weather luxury in their day-to-day (instead of the collections belonging to the elite few who can afford a yearly trip — and its matching wardrobe — to the Maldives), the offerings are more Miami-ready than ever. Pop-inspired colors and Art Deco inspirations meet wearable, smart tailoring, short suits and cropped jackets made for Ocean Drive, and bold shift dresses aren't just for the gilded class but a lady-on-the-go. In other words, resortwear is less about lounging on la playa and more about energy, color, and spunk (sound familiar, MIA?).
So peep the pieces that're not only inspired by our city but are now inspiring our wardrobe (see how that works?)...because today's resortwear isn't just for the chosen few.
