Peplum tops, chunky sandals, and loungewear (as party wear) have had a good run over the past couple years. So good, in fact, we've grown tired of seeing that stiff-shaped, ladylike ruffle at the hip of every dress; and we've felt compelled to put on non-pajama clothing when getting out of bed in the morning. Even our favorite colorblocked pieces have begun to feel a bit been there, worn that.
If these 10 trends of the not-so-distant past are sticking around for a little longer, it's only because they've assumed new identities. Sure, we may still call them by the same names, but this summer's peplum droops instead of darts; statement necklaces take cues from the '90s; and those sheer festival skirts have been replaced with a much more sophisticated see-through tactic.
These inspired sartorial changes are just the kind of refresh to get us excited about the styles that could have otherwise been left in the past. (Or, in the far reaches of our closet.) What's old(ish) has become new, basic is now edgy, and obvious takes an unexpected twist. Don't be shy — click over and reintroduce yourself.
