3 Stellar Anti-Aging Ingredients For Your Hair

Ceramides, superfruits and hyaluronic acid… sure, you’ve heard of these ingredients before, but you’ve most likely been slathering them on your face, not in your hair. But, that was then. Now, you can now thank a slew of haircare brands who are embracing anti-aging ingredients to help bring your colored, flat-ironed and chemically treated hair back to life.
As it turns out, what's good for your complexion can also be good for your hair. “Skin care products contain ingredients that are designed to moisturize, replenish or protect skin, and many of these same ingredients can also help maintain the health of your hair,” explains Eric Bone, the L’Oréal Paris Senior Vice President of Research & Innovation. Here are a few we're excited for.

Ceramides

Known as the glue that holds our skin together, ceramides also help to mend broken hair fibers and reinforce the hair's structure. "They're the real cement of the cuticle scales,” Bone says. Since they’re known for their smoothing properties, look for them in finishing products like serums and oils. Best bets: Matrix Sleek Look Miracle Reconstructor or Phyto Phytokeratin Reparative Serum.

Superfruits & Antioxidants

New blends of antioxidants are constantly being introduced in skincare to help protect from free radicals, which cause aging. In haircare, you find even superfruits to help nourish your strands and shield color from fading. Bumble and Bumble’s Color Minded UV Protective Polish uses a combination of antioxidants to block the sun and acts as a lightweight finishing serum. Or, for added moisture, try Garnier Fructis’s Hydra Recharge Moisture-Whip Leave In Conditioner, which combines goji berry, passion fruit and kiwi.

Hyaluronic Acid

Whether we like it or not as we get older, hyaluronic acid eventually becomes our BFF. Know for locking in hydration to temporarily plump out lines and wrinkles, in haircare it helps each individual strand retain moisture. For replenishment, infuse your tresses with an at-home treatment such as L’Oréal Advanced Haircare Power Moisture Moisture Rush Masque or John Masters Organics Honey and Hibiscus Hair Reconstructor. Before you know it, your hair might be carded on the regular.
