Cab Drivers Can Now Buy Mercedes-Benz Taxis

The Taxi and Limousine Commission just added a $51,100 Mercedes-Benz to its approved list for use as a yellow taxi. The E350 BlueTec luxury sedan was entered into the selection because Ford is stopping production of the Crown Victoria, currently the most popular cab. The New York Daily News reports that most drivers think the cost of the Benz way too high—"I already paid 50 bucks for gas today. Maybe Mayor Bloomberg can afford to drive a Mercedes cab," cabbie Khan Iqbal told the paper. While hacks have to purchase new vehicles every three to five years, we're guessing they're gonna skip the Merc and go with a hybrid.
